Brandon Aiyuk sets new career high in receiving yards

Brandon Aiyuk set a new career high in receiving yards on 23 fewer catches than last season.

The 49ers got a big play from Brandon Aiyuk late in the third quarter of their Week 14 game against the Seahawks. Quarterback Brock Purdy bought time to his left and found Aiyuk deep up the left side for 45 yards. That catch gave Aiyuk a new career high in receiving yards.

Aiyuk entered Sunday with 927 receiving yards. After his 45-yard grab in the third quarter he was up to 96 yards in Sunday’s game, putting him at 1,023 for the season. That eclipses the career high 1,015 he posted last season.

What’s remarkable about Aiyuk is that he’s doing all this work with relatively low volume. Last year he needed 78 catches to get to his career high in yards. That 45-yard catch was only his 55th of the season.
