Brady Manek stands out in summer league opener

Former UNC basketball standout Brady Manek was red-hot from the three-point line in the NBA Summer league.

Former North Carolina standout Brady Manek is getting another crack at making an NBA roster for the upcoming season. After spending last year overseas, Manek is back in the NBA Summer League, joining the Atlanta Hawks for the next few weeks.

In his first game with the Hawks, Manek showed his shooting ability.

The forward finished with 17 points, including five made 3-pointers, in the Hawks’ 80-76 loss to the Sacramento Kings. Manek’s 17 points led all scorers on the Hawks as they fought back with a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter.

Manek put on a nice performance with his former Oklahoma teammate Trae Young sitting courtside. The Hawks and summer league fans saw Manek catch fire from the 3-point line — a familiar scene for UNC basketball fans.

In his one year with the Tar Heels, Manek showed his scoring ability numerous times. That included during the Tar Heels’ run to the national championship game.

Let’s hope Manek can keep this up in the summer league and earn a spot on the training camp roster.
