Kevin Durant has a very high opinion of Jrue Holiday. He went so far as to say the New Orleans Pelicans guard is “solidified as probably the best defender in the league at the guard position,” during the Brooklyn Nets forward’s appearance on JJ Redick’s podcast.
When we talk about defense, a lot of people don’t really understand what defense really means. For different positions, especially at point guard, the stuff you have to do to guard, they don’t get a lot of credit for fighting over screens especially now they getting screened at half court, guys are running off of pindowns.
Not long after Durant appeared on Redick’s podcast, Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson of Heavy.com reported the Nets and Pelicans had discussed a trade that would send Spencer Dinwiddie, Jarrett Allen and Dzanan Musa to New Orleans and bring Holiday to Brooklyn.
Bleacher Report is now suggesting a move for Holiday, as well, but at a steeper cost: both Dinwiddie and Caris LeVert.
This would be quite a haul for the New Orleans Pelicans, whose leverage diminishes with every second that brings Jrue Holiday closer to the end of his current contract. He’s a much better player than either Caris LeVert or Spencer Dinwiddie, and he’s a defensive ace, which is why the Brooklyn Nets might consider a swap along these lines.
Holiday would be a great addition to the Nets. But getting rid of both Dinwiddie and LeVert for him is quite a steep a price.
New Orleans absolutely needs a strong young player in return for Holiday — he’s worth than and a little more. But getting rid of both your third and fourth-best scoring options for two years with Holiday is asking a lot.
