Bleacher Report cranked out a quick and to the point mock ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft this week. In that, the Bills land wide receiver Henry Ruggs.
The Alabama product will likely be a first-round selection at April’s draft. Exactly who takes him will likely depend on how he preforms at the upcoming NFL Scouting Combine, as B/R explains:
Several talented wide receivers are likely to end up going in the first round, though a deep receiver class could push some first-round-standard talent into Day 2. For players like Alabama’s Henry Ruggs III, the combine could be key to being picked on opening night.
Based purely on statistics, Ruggs isn’t an overwhelming prospect. He amassed 746 yards on 40 receptions this past season, which is solid but not spectacular. What’s going to interest teams, however, is Ruggs’ speed.
According to NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah, Ruggs could run in the 4.2-second range in the 40-yard dash at the combine.
In regard to the Bills and Ruggs, the math is pretty simple. Josh Allen throw ball far, Ruggs run far and get ball.
But, again, the combine. If Ruggs does land amongst the fastest times ever at the combine, he likely won’t be around when Buffalo picks. The 40-yard time is one of the most influential combines tests out there and his stock will fly up the board if Ruggs does so.
In addition, Ruggs isn’t the biggest target at about six feet tall. Some observers of the Bills are clamoring for a bigger playmaker for Allen currently. But if Ruggs is on the board, his speed and route running still make him an intriguing option for the Bills.
Good stuff from Henry Ruggs on this sluggo:
– Great pad level, sells vertical to start
– Does a great job of committing his shoulders and head to the slant, gets DB to commit inside
– Violent break outside to get separation
– High points ball, strongly tucks it into his frame pic.twitter.com/6ROPDnew4m
