The Brooklyn Nets have an important offseason ahead of them as they look to find a way to either become a title contender or fully embrace a rebuild. After the season that started with championship aspirations with the team headed by Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the campaign ended with getting swept in the first-round of the playoffs by the Philadelphia 76ers.
While Brooklyn recovered well from essentially being forced to trade Durant and Irving, the Nets are now stuck in between competing for championships and being in a position to acquire and develop top talent via the Draft. Players like Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, and Nic Claxton have shown that they can be part of a core to surround a star or two in search of a championship.
However, this season showed that Brooklyn needs more if they want to get back into the title conversation. Finishing this season with a 12-15 record after the trade deadline and failing to win a game in the playoffs left a bad taste in the mouths of Nets fans. According to Bleacher Report, Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young could be the answer:
“Young is absurdly productive. He hasn’t averaged fewer than 25 points since his rookie season, and he just delivered his first double-digit assists average. He more or less guarantees his team will have a top-10 attack on his own given his off-the-dribble scoring, pull-up shooting and prolific passing.
The defensive end can be a struggle with Young, though, which might be why Atlanta’s front office reportedly has the green light to consider dealing him, per The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor. If Young does hit the trade block, the Nets should think long and hard about making an aggressive offer for him.”
