Boston’s Oshae Brissett is emerging as the ideal backup wing

Oshae Brissett’s emergence off the bench could stop the Boston Celtics from making a trade before the February 8 deadline.

The Boston Celtics have an open roster spot. As we head toward the February 8 trade deadline, most Celtics fans expect Brad Stevens to make a small move to add some additional depth to Joe Mazzulla‘s rotation. During a recent media availability, Stevens noted how the Celtics would likely target a wing with size should they decide to make a trade.

However, Boston already has that type of wing on their roster, and he’s currently staking his claim for a bigger role in the rotation. Oshae Brissett has proven himself to be a high-energy role player off the bench who can make an impact on defense with a brash and in-your-face style of play. Yes, he may struggle on offense, yet his upside as an energy guy is clear for everyone to see.

In a recent episode of the “Green With Envy” podcast, the hosts discuss whether Brissett’s emergence off the bench will deter Stevens from making a move and potentially parting with some tradable assets.

Boston could look to fill their final bench spot by converting a two-way player contract or adding someone via free agency. Brissett has likely done enough to cement himself as a potential member of the rotation for the remainder of the season.
