Soon-to-be-inducted Hall of Fame Boston Celtics legend Kevin Garnett wants a team back in Seattle.

In an unexpected turn in a recent Associated Press interview related to his being voted into the Naismith Hall of Fame with the 2020 class, the former Boston big man made a surprising revelation.

Not only would he prefer the NBA return to that Washington city — he’d like a hand in making it happen.

“If I have a dream, I would say that I would love to give be able to go and buy the Seattle SuperSonics and reactivate the Pacific Northwest,” Garnett said via the Associated Press. “Seattle was huge to our league. I would love to be able to do that. That’s what’s up. If there’s one thing I could do tomorrow, it would be that.”

You might think the Big Ticket less friendly towards a town he only won eight times out of 27 visits in — but for an arch-competitor like Garnett, that might well be part of the attraction.

As he made clear when discussing his Hall of Fame ascension with the Athletic’s Shams Charania, his fiercest opponents have always garnered his respect.

“I like to think that steel sharpens steel, and I like to think that all three of us pushed each other to be the best that we could be,” suggested KG, referring to longtime rivals and fellow 2020 inductees Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan.
