After retiring from coaching college football between the 2016 and 2017 seasons, legendary Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops rejoined the Sooners as the team’s interim leader, following Lincoln Riley’s departure for USC and before former Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables takes over.
One of the best parts of Stoops’ return was seeing him get to coach his son, Drake, a junior wide receiver for Oklahoma who joined the team in 2018, two seasons after his father retired. And the pair shared a special moment together after a second-quarter touchdown on the way to the No. 16 Sooners’ victory over No. 14 Oregon in the Alamo Bowl on Wednesday night.
Against the Ducks, Drake had one reception for just six yards, but it was a good one. On 3rd-and-goal still early in the second quarter, Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams found Drake going one-on-one to his left in the end zone, and the wide receiver jumped up for the Sooners’ second touchdown of the game, giving them a 16-3 lead with the extra point.

The crowd cheered the Stoops name loud enough to be heard on the broadcast, and as Drake celebrated the touchdown with his teammates, he and his dad hugged it out on the sidelines for a fleeting but touching moment while on the same Sooners team for the first time.
Despite a strong third quarter from Oregon, Oklahoma ultimate beat the Ducks, 47-32, and moved to 11-2 on the season.
