Bo Melton has seen enough of Gavin Wimsatt to think that the Rutgers freshman quarterback has the potential to make a positive impact on the Scarlet Knights offense.
Wimsatt, a four-star quarterback recruit who enrolled early this past September at Rutgers (after playing three high school football games of his senior season), rather expectedly took some bumps as he acclimated to college football. But there was an awful lot to like about Wimsatt including his maturity, a clutch throw in a road win at Illinois, and some real positives in the Gator Bowl.
Melton, a standout wide receiver at Rutgers who is getting ready for the NFL draft, thinks that the future of the Rutgers offense is in good hands with Wimsatt as well as incumbent starting quarterback Noah Vedral.

He spoke to ‘Rutgers Wire’ about the future of Wimsatt with the Scarlet Knights in a recent interview:
“Gavin is a phenomenal athlete, a big tall quarterback, fast quarterback. And with him – I see the tools. I’ve seen Gavin play. I’ve played with Gavin. Played with Noah also – all of them too. They’re all great athletes,” Melton told ‘Rutgers Wire.’
“But you see Gavin – he has all the tools to be a really good quarterback. He always works very hard. So I’m, I’m 100 percent sure that they’re going to get him right and bring him along with all other quarterbacks like Noah Vedral – they will have their assignment and they’re all going to work hard each and every day.”
Melton is coming off a tremendous offseason, highlighted by a strong showing in the Senior Bowl where he showcased his ability to get separation, crisp routes, and also his speed. That speed, as seen at the NFL Combine where he ran a 4.34 time in the 40, is going to make him an intriguing pick for NFL teams on Day 2 or Day 3 of the NFL draft.

The Rutgers football wide receiver spoke to ‘Rutgers Wire’ two weeks ago at the Morris County Card Show at Embassy Suites in Parsippany, N.J. Melton did a signing at the event where he autographed items for nearly 100 Rutgers fans who showed up.
