Blue-chip 2024 cornerback recruit eyes official visit with Florida football

This 4-star athlete/defensive back is still weighing his options when it comes to an official visit in the Swamp this fall.

Florida football continues to chug away on the recruiting trail while the impending 2023 season draws near. While Billy Napier and Co. have mostly filled up the roster for the 2024 cycle, there still remain a few spots open for some coveted prep prospects.

One of those high school recruits is four-star athlete/cornerback [autotag]Kamron Mikell[/autotag] out of Statesboro (Georgia), who has been in the Gators’ crosshairs for some time. Recently, 247Sports’ Blake Alderman caught up with the high school senior to get some feedback on where Florida stands in his recruitment.

“I have been talking with them a little bit,” Mikell told Alderman. “I talk with Coach (Billy) Napier, Coach Billy G(onzales) and Coach (David) Doek(er) mainly. We just been keeping in touch to get build the relationship, and they send graphics saying come be great and things of that nature.”

The biggest question heading into the fall is whether or not Napier can get him on campus for an official visit. The 6-foot-2-inch, 181-pound multipurpose player appears to be open to an OV but is non-commital at the moment.

“I am planning to visit them for an official visit, but I don’t know when right now. I still have some OV’s left to figure out. I don’t really want to do OV’s after the season, so I am trying to work out a date with Florida. I am trying to do one there.”

The Orange and Blue are not the only program vying for the coveted blue-chipper.

“I want to visit Colorado, Alabama and maybe Miami and USC if they offered me.”

As for where he would play in Gainesville — a question that his listing as both an athlete and defensive back begs — the Gators appear to like his talents on the offensive side of the ball.

“They are recruiting me on offense to play receiver,” he offered. “They like my speed at receiver and my versatility. I like offense more.”

Mikell is ranked No. 138 overall and No. 9 at the athlete position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at No. 129 overall and No. 17 at cornerback nationally. He holds two crystal ball predictions for UGA from 247Sports, who also have an 89.2% chance of landing him, per On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine.
