Blizzard is working on two Diablo 4 expansions

Blizzard is already working on two big Diablo 4 expansions, separate from the RPG’s regular seasons, in the hopes of avoiding the mistakes of Diablo 3. Series general manager Rob Fergusson teased the expansions on the Kinda Funny Games Show and said the team wants to deliver plenty of new updates to Diablo 4 on a regular basis (thanks, PC Gamer).

“So you have to build your team and your structure around a way you can do that sustainably because you’re always shipping,” Fergusson said. “As I sit here, we’re about to launch the main game, we’re finishing up season one, we’re working on season two, we’re working on expansion one, we’re kicking off expansion two… we’re working on that now, and we haven’t even launched the game.”

Blizzard’s push for regular content updates comes after criticism just not of Diablo 3’s long droughts – Blizzard didn’t even announce the first expansion until a year after the game launched, and it took several more months before release – but also of Overwatch. The decision to bin Overwatch 2’s promised PvE mode came in part after management decided it was more important to push regular updates with new maps, modes, and heroes instead.

Fergusson also reiterated Blizzard’s commitment to seasonal, well, seasons in Diablo 4, quarterly updates with new trials and rewards, and clarified the question of whether there’s a cow level this time. There isn’t, because it would’ve been too silly.

Pain.

In other Diablo 4 news, a streamer has already reached level 100 on hardcore mode, a day before the game fully launches for everyone.
