The Buffalo Bills are going to have Von Miller back in the fold this week. At least in terms of the practice field.
Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott announced that Miller is expected to be at workouts. It’s important to note that’s step one of two in terms of Miller facing the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-2) in Week 5.
At some point in the coming days, Miller, who is returning from an ACL injury suffered in 2022, will be designated to return from the PUP list. That allows him to only practice.
From there, Buffalo has 21 days to activate him to the 53-man roster. If the team does not, the Bills must return Miller to injury designation and he’s required to stay there for the remainder of the 2023 season.
Considering the latter, Miller wouldn’t be activated just yet if he wasn’t close to returning. It had long been expected Miller would hit the practice field this week after he said he was cleared for contact on Aug. 27 but the team did not want to rush him back onto the field at the start of the regular season.
In addition to Miller, the same rules apply to rookie receiver Justin Shorter (hamstring) and linebacker Baylon Spector (hamstring). Both were placed on injured reserve after roster cuts.
However, McDermott did not provide an update on Shorter or Spector just yet.
With Miller getting in practices, there is a clear route for him to be activated to the 53-man roster.
McDermott also announced that cornerback Tre’Davious White is going to be placed on the injured reserve list in due time due to a season-ending Achilles injury sustained on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. That move would free up a roster spot for Miller’s addition.
Bills Wire will provide updates when information is made available.
