Case Keenum is not making a big deal about potentially starting for the Buffalo Bills
Neither is Stefon Diggs.
The status of Buffalo’s starter, Josh Allen, is up in the air. But it’s looking more and more like Keenum playing will be a reality.
On Thursday, Allen missed a second-straight day of practice due to his elbow injury.
If it is Keenum leading the way for the Bills (6-2), leaning on his relationship with Diggs might be a good plan of attack. The two were teammates, ironically enough, with the Minnesota Vikings (7-1)… the exact team Buffalo hosts in Week 10.
There, the two connected on potentially the biggest play in franchise history, the “Minnesota Miracle.” Keenum chucked a game-winning pass to Diggs on the final play of an overtime win.
It’s no wonder Diggs has confidence in QB2.
“That’s my guy, me and Case go way back. He’s a true pro, he’s been around this league for a long time, so I anticipate him preparing the right way,” Diggs said via video conference. “He’s a winner, he’s a dog. Case is a professional and all those good things, but when he gets out there, he’s still competing at a high level.”
For Keenum himself, he said he plans to lean on his experience if he does get the nod on Sunday.
Perhaps that’s with Diggs, but Keenum already downplayed facing his former team. Because he’s suited up for seven NFL teams in his career, he’s said facing an ex team is something he’s done plenty already.
Part of that same realm is getting a start under intense circumstances like this week. Buffalo isn’t exactly reeling, but after losing to the New York Jets, the divisional and conference lead are on the line for the Bills.
No pressure, Case.
“I’ve been in all situations,” Keenum said in the locker room. “Played a lot without any practice, know how to do that, step into the middle of the game. I’ve practiced some and then played, I’ve practiced very little and played. I’ve literally been in any situation you could probably think of throughout the week.”
