Mitch Trubisky is back in Buffalo.
The Buffalo Bills announced that the team has signed the quarterback to a two-year deal. The news was announced follow a purge of players from Buffalo’s roster due to salary cap restraints.
Trubisky will resume his duties in Buffalo of being backup to Josh Allen. In 2021, the Bills signed Trubisky to a one-year deal to do just that. The idea for Trubisky to take a year as a No. 2 and wait for an opportunity to sign elsewhere the following offseason.
Trubisky went on to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers and played there the past two years.
The 29-year-old was able to sign with the Bills because the Steelers had already released him. Free agency does not open until next week, however, that relates to players still under contract. Trubisky was not.
In seven seasons, Trubisky has started 57 games, thrown for 12,536 yards, 72 touchdowns and 48 interceptions.
Trubisky’s signing likely means Kyle Allen, Buffalo’s backup in 2023, will depart the team via free agency.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Trubisky’s two-year deal is worth $5.25 million. The deal maxes out at $8.45M relating to playing time incentives.
