Bills sign QB Mike White to extension, add him to Week 18 roster

The Buffalo Bills have made some quarterback news ahead of facing the New England Patriots.

Although, it is minor.

The team announced two transactions involving backup QB Mike White.

White has been added to the team’s 53-man roster ahead of facing the Patriots (3-13) in Week 18. On top of that, he has been signed to a one-year contract extension:

In a corresponding move, linebacker Nicholas Morrow was released by the Bills (13-3) to make room for White. Morrow could very well end back up on Buffalo’s practice squad.

Josh Allen is slated to start under center against the Pats but only in an effort to extend his 114 game starting streak. He will quickly exit the game and Mitchell Trubisky will go the rest of the way unless White ends up seeing time.

The Bills have nothing to gain in Sunday’s contest because the No. 2 seed in the AFC postseason has already been locked up by them.

White signed in Buffalo in August and has spent the 2024 season as the defacto third-string quarterback from the practice squad. Allen and Trubisky were the only two actually signed to the active roster throughout the year.

This type of formula appears to be the move for the Bills going forward as well considering White’s extension.

White, 29, has made seven career starts. All of those came with the New York Jets. He has a record of 2-5.
