Bills sign Pro Bowl O-lineman Rodger Saffold to one-year deal

#Bills sign Pro Bowl O-lineman Rodger Saffold to one-year deal:

The Buffalo Bills have made a big addition to their offensive line as free agency begins to unfold in the NFL.

The team announced on Monday that Rodger Saffold has signed a one-yea deal with the Bills. Full terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Late last week, the Tennessee Titans released Saffold in a salary cap move, according to Titans Wire. Cutting him saved Tennessee $10.4 million in 2022.

Because Saffold was already released by the Titans, the Bills can officially sign him to a contract immediately. The two sides do not have to wait until the ending of the “legal tampering period” in the NFL on Wednesday.

Saffold was a second-round pick of the Los Angeles Rams in 2010.

Soon to be 34 in July, Saffold has had promising seasons in recent years. He was named a Pro Bowler in 2021, however, Titans Wire did note that Saffold “struggled in pass protection and dealt with injury that saw him coming in and out of games quite frequently” last season.

That checks out via Pro Football Focus. The football analytics outlet graded Saffold a 68.8 overall mark in 2021. However, he was carried by a 76.1 run-blocking mark. His 44.8 pass protection grade was considered very low.

Saffold previously signed a four year, $44M deal with the Titans. He spent 2010-2018 with the Rams prior to that.
