The Buffalo Bills have signed offensive lineman Forrest Lamp. The team announced the move on Wednesday, and it’s said to be a one-year deal.
Lamp, 27, just finished up his rookie contract with the Los Angeles Chargers. Previously a 2017 second-round pick, Lamp was a pretty well-touted prospect prior to that draft, which led to him being select No. 38 overall. He was the first guard picked that year.
Once in the NFL though, Lamp struggled mightily with injuries. During his rookie training camp, he tore his ACL and missed his entire first season. That also led to him being a backup in his second season as well.
In 2019 he finally saw extended playing time with seven games played, but then he broke his leg.
Finally last year, Lamp remained healthy and did not miss a snap. Pro Football Focus wasn’t overly nice to him, though. He earned a below-average grade of 49.4 overall from the football analytics outlet. His pass blocking mark of 60.7 is solid, at least.
Recently the Bills have added other depth to their offensive line with the likes of Bobby Hart and Jamil Douglas as well. All three will likely see a chance to at least earn a backup spot, but if they impress, Buffalo is no stranger to giving new players starting jobs along the O-line. Daryl Williams did that just last season.
