Bills’ Sean McDermott remains cool about Josh Allen extension talks

#Bills’ Sean McDermott remains cool about Josh Allen extension talks:

Sean McDermott is as cool as the other side of the pillow regarding his team getting quarterback Josh Allen signed to a long-term extension.

On Thursday, McDermott gave his latest thoughts on the matter. The coach sounds like he’s confident it’s going to happen regardless of when or where.

“Brandon (Beane) mentioned that, I think at the end of the spring practice period there, and these things handle themselves. They work themselves out when you got two parties that want to be together and have the same end goal in mind,” McDermott told NFL Network. “Josh is a great, young talent and he fits so well with Buffalo and the city and the town and the people of Buffalo. So, I firmly believe it’s gonna work itself out.”

As someone with inside knowledge of the situation, McDermott feeling so comfortable about the extension talks is a great sign. However, we don’t even really need to trust McDermott’s intel. All signs have already pointed to Allen sticking around.

The No. 7 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, Allen had the fifth-year option on his rookie deal picked up by the Bills earlier this offseason. That means he’s signed through the 2022 season, so even if the extension takes a while, there is still plenty of time.

But the reason for not needing to worry is Allen himself. He’s made note several times on the record that he doesn’t want to leave Buffalo. Allen said exactly that as recently as November 2020.

“I don’t ever want to leave,” Allen said after donations were made in honor of his late grandmother in Buffalo. “Obviously and, I want to play here as a long as I can… [I want to] give back to this community and give back to Bills Mafia.”

Like McDermott, Bills fans have very little reason to worry at all.
