Championship Sunday came and went and so did the Buffalo Bills’ shot at the Super Bowl. In losing to the Kansas City Chiefs 38-24, the Bills were sent packing with a lot to think about.

According to NFL.com’s Adam Schein, there were four “losers” from the weekend that was. Unfortunately for Bills head coach Sean McDermott was among them.

The reason is one that’s not surprising to those who watched the game as well. It starts and ends with those three-point attempts:

Field goals, field goals and more field goals. That is NOT how you beat the Mahomes-led defending Super Bowl champs. Also, the Bills made way too many self-induced mistakes against a juggernaut. That can’t happen. McDermott’s defense just wasn’t buttoned-up. The offense was scattered. T.J. Yeldon in the I-formation in the red zone? Eh. Devin Singletary was a dud, too. Shoot, the Bills’ only effective runner was their quarterback.

Just a disappointing all-around effort from Buffalo. That goes back to McDermott, unfortunately leaving a bad taste in your mouth at the end of an extremely well-coached season.

In response to the harsh critics, McDermott will have to do nothing but learn from his mistakes. And good news, it seems like he already has a bit.

Following the game, McDermott admitted he would’ve liked to go back and change at least one of his decisions to kick a field goal. That’s halfway there to solving the problem.
