Bills re-sign special teams ace Tyler Matakevich to one-year deal

Another one-year, re-up for Tyler Matakevich with the #Bills:

Linebacker Tyler Matakevich has been re-signed by the Buffalo Bills just prior to the start of free agency.

The team announced the transaction on Monday, along with the re-signing of punter Sam Martin. Terms of Matakevich’s deal were not disclosed.

Matakevich has served as a depth linebacker, and more importantly a key special teamer, for the Bills since 2020.

He originally signed a two-year deal with the team as a free agent and was re-signed to an extension last offseason via another one-year contract.

Matakevich, 30, might be an under-the-radar player but he has his importance.

In all three of his seasons in Buffalo, he has led the team in special teams snaps played. Matakevich is also a team captain.

Defensively, Matakevich has not featured often for the Bills but he has made appearances in a reserve role. In his three years in Buffalo, Matakevich has played 118 totals snaps on defense.

Matakevich began his career in 2016 as a seventh-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
