The Buffalo Bills have made an internal promotion on their coaching staff.
The team announced that Eric Washington has been promoted to assistant head coach. He will also continue his role as Buffalo’s defensive line coach.
Washington has been the Bills’ defensive line coach since 2020. Last season, Washington was promoted to senior defensive assistant/defensive line coach.
Previously the title of assistant head coach belonged to former Buffalo defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier. Earlier this offseason, Frazier and the Bills parted ways.
Since then, Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott has taken over the defensive coordinator position along with his role as head coach.
Prior to his time with the Bills, Washington was the defensive line coach coach for the Carolina Panthers from 2011 to 2017. That time period overlapped with McDermott’s tenure as the Panthers’ defensive coordinator.
When McDermott was hired as head coach in Buffalo in 2017, Washington went on to become Carolina’s DC for two seasons before joining McDermott’s coaching staff.
