Bills playoff picture: Texans’ JJ Watt could return for postseason

Off the bat, it’s not set in stone. We’re not sure who the Bills are going to play in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.

Off the bat, it’s not set in stone. We’re not sure who the Bills are going to play in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.

Buffalo will either visit the Kansas City Chiefs or Houston Texans. The more likely option is the Texans, and their defense just got some big news.

Former Defensive Player of the Year winner JJ Watt is going to return for Houston’s playoff run. He tore his pec muscle in Week 8 against the Raiders and it seemed season-ending.

Instead, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said Watt will be back, and even could have played in their Week 17 game, if there was anything riding on it. Instead, the Texans wrapped up an AFC South title in Week 16.

“Help is on the way for this Texans defense,” Rapoport said. “He is, in fact, expected to be back in practice for the Houston Texans shortly.

“[Watt’s recovery] is going extremely well, expect him back on the field this season,” Rapoport added.

Here’s Rap Sheet’s full report on Watt’s health:

In eight games earlier this season, Watt had four sacks.

While missing plenty of time, Watt still ranks highly in Pro Football Focus’ grading system as well. His 89.6 overall grade is fourth-best among all qualifying edge defenders.

The three-time DPOY Award winner has also had a heck of a career against the Bills. In four games, he has two sacks, 15 QB hits, and a pick-six interception.
