Bills players share their thoughts on Texans coaching candidate Leslie Frazier

Buffalo Bills defensive players shared their thoughts on Houston Texans coaching candidate Leslie Frazier, who has been their defensive coordinator.

The Houston Texans gave a second interview to Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier on Tuesday.

Frazier, who was also the coach of the Minnesota Vikings from 2010-13, is 61 years old and seeks to become the Texans’ fourth full-time coach in team history.

The Kansas City Chiefs knocked the Bills out of the AFC Championship Game 38-24 at Arrowhead Stadium, which was a disappointing way to end a season where Buffalo’s defense finished 16th in points allowed, 14th in yards allowed, and third in takeaways.

Bills linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, who collected 119 combined tackles and 2.0 sacks to earn his second Pro Bowl, says he respects Frazier “a whole lot.”

“He’s a great coach,” Edmunds said via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. “He’s a great man. He has his own way of yelling. He gets his point across without raising his voice too much. You know exactly what he’s meaning, what the tone is in his voice.”

According to Edmunds, Frazier is a great coach, “but an even better person.”

Said Edmunds: “Everybody respects coach Frazier and the way he goes about his business. He’s a great educator in the game. He played, so his knowledge of the game speaks for itself.”

Safety Jordan Poyer says that Frazier isn’t a screaming type of coach, but still has a presence in the meeting room.

“He does a hell of a job commanding the room, getting guys ready to play,” Poyer said. “I think he’d be a head coach anywhere in the league. I’m happy he’s here with us.”

Poyer also said Frazier is “a player’s coach.”

“He puts confidence in guys,” said Poyer. “He’ll tell you if you’re not doing something right, and he’ll credit you for doing the right job.”

Going with Frazier would be the first time since the hiring of Dom Capers in 2002 that the Texans went with a defensive-minded coach.
