The Buffalo Bills finally added their first player at the 2020 NFL Draft and it’s Iowa defensive end AJ Epenesa.

.Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane decided to stand pat at the No. 54 overall pick after shipping out his team’s first-round pick in order to land wide receiver Stefon Diggs earlier this offseason in a deal with the Vikings. That’s where Epenesa was selected by the Bills.

In many mock drafts leading up to the draft, the Bills did select Epenesa. But that was when the team had a first-round pick prior to the Diggs trade, so the Bills certainly got some value with their pick.

Following a 10.5 sack season with 16.5 tackles for loss in 2018, Epenesa added 11.5 sacks and 14 tackles for loss in 2019. The reason for Epenesa falling into the second round was likely his scouting combine workout where he underwhelmed.

As a rookie, Epenesa could still see some playing time as the Bills consistently run a rotation along their defensive line. He’ll be stuck behind Jerry Hughes and Mario Addison on early depth charts.
