Improvements happened for Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen in 2019. His second pro season saw an uptick in yards and scores and a cutdown in interceptions.
But what could have been?
Among Allen’s better stats was his completion percent. That number improved from 52.8 percent to 58.8 in Year 2. But what could have been?
Sportsradar recently complied which quarterbacks were hurt most by dropped passes just a year ago. It might just be by a sliver, but no quarterback in the NFL was affected more by dropped passes during the 2019 season than Allen:
While those all around Allen aren’t the only ones to blame, he has to improve his deep ball accuracy himself, hopefully the hands around Allen will improve next season as well. The player that struggled most with drops might have been tight end Dawson Knox in 2019. Entering his second season, there’s optimism surrounding Knox, but he still has a ways to go until he’s even an above average modern day tight end. Fixing his drop habit will help.
And of course, there’s Stefon Diggs to consider. With these drops in mind, the Bills front office decided to trade for, not only a No. 1 target, but a guy who rarely drops the ball in Diggs. Over the past few seasons in a row, Diggs has ranked among the top in the NFL in terms of making contested catches. According to Pro Football Focus. he was second-best in the league just last season in this category.
