The Buffalo Bills had a 2023 season that was successful considering the fact that they were in danger of missing the playoffs entirely after losing at the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 12. Despite the fact that Buffalo still had their potential Super Bowl season ended by the Kansas City Chiefs once again, there is one Bill who made an elite list.
Pro Football Focus (PFF) recently put out their top 101 players list for the 2023 list and Buffalo’s star quarterback, Josh Allen, ranked 16th on the exclusive list. When you look at the kind of season that Allen had, it’s easy to see why he ranked as high as he did, including having just three other quarterbacks ranked ahead of him.
Allen, who played in all available games for the fifth straight season, completed 385 (sixth in the NFL) of 579 (T-fifth) passes for 4,306 yards (fourth), 29 touchdowns (fifth), and 18 interceptions (second-most). Among quarterbacks, Allen also ran 111 times (fourth) for 524 yards (fourth) and 15 touchdowns (T-first).
For his efforts, Allen finished fifth in voting for the Associated Press Most Valuable Player award as well as sixth in voting for the Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year award. Despite how Allen played this past season, he was not named to the Pro Bowl or as an All-Pro.
Here’s what PFF’s Sam Monson had to say about Allen and why he ranked where he did on the list:
“Much was made of Allen’s turnovers this season, but he also led the league in big-time throws (43) and ranked second in big-time throw rate (6.2%). When the Bills needed plays, Allen took responsibility, either with his arm or legs. He is one of the few genuinely unstoppable quarterbacks when he plays his best football, and he did that plenty of times this season.”
