The Buffalo Bills hosted running back Latavius Murray on a free-agent visit this week, according to the NFL’s transaction wire.

The 33-year-old’s visit comes as a bit of a surprise. Potentially in a position with the Bills, Murray would join as a veteran presence in a group already involving the recently added Damien Harris, James Cook and Nyheim Hines.

In years past, Buffalo has rostered a veteran in their backfield behind a duo or trio in Taiwan Jones. However, Jones–who is 34 and remains a free agent–played a huge role as a special teamer.

Meanwhile, Murray has not taken a single snap on special teams since 2014, his rookie year.

Perhaps Murray can rejuvenate that part of his game or maybe the Bills still see him as a option to bring something out of the backfield.

Just last season, Murray signed with the Denver Broncos at the mid-point of the year and lead the team with 703 rushing yards and five touchdowns in seven starts.Broncos Wire reported earlier this week that Denver is “unlikely” to bring Murray back in 2023.

It would remain to be seen what type of opportunity Murray would get if he landed in Buffalo. While at the late stages of his career, Murray is not a rusher who has a lot of tread on his tires. He most has appeared in rotational roles.

A sixth-round pick out of Syracuse via the Oakland Raiders, Murray grew up in Central New York as well. He has also played for the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens.

Murray has average 4.2 yards per carry in his career.

Bills Wire will continue to bring all updates on the team throughout the offseason.
