The Buffalo Bills have an underlying secret of sorts at defensive tackle heading into 2020. It’s Harrison Phillips.
The second-year pro got off to a good start last year, but things ended abruptly. In Week 3, he tore his ACL and his season was over.
It’s well known that it’s long road to recovery from such an injury. But he told the team’s website this week that things are going smoothly.
“Overall, it’s going really well. If you were to ask the trainers or the strength staff or anybody involved in my day to day they would most likely rave and give you the double thumbs up with where I’m at,” Phillips said.
According to the report, Phillips is now able to straight-line run. He indicated that he’s still taking his time, but with this update coming in February, Phillips will be good to go in time for the 2020 season.
While missing last season, Phillips could be key for the Bills next season and even sooner. Jordan Phillips is a pending free agent, but if he leaves, Buffalo won’t need a replacement. Harrison Phillips is already here, and he said he’s already chomping at the bit to get back out there, regardless of what teammates return or don’t return.
“The season was one of the hardest things I had to go through. It was just so emotional. I was so happy for my team. I was so happy for my brothers, the guys I grinded with last year, but it was just a can of mixed emotions. I was hurt from not being able to play, excited for the team doing well, to then almost jealousy and greed factoring in like, ‘Man, what if I was out there?,” Phillips said.
