In beating the New England Patriots in Week 17, the Buffalo Bills have handed them something for the first time since the turn of the century.
In 2000, Bill Belichick wrapped up his first season as New England’s head coach. There is speculation that 2023 could be his last with the Patriots.
In losing to the Bills (10-6), the Patriots fell to 4-12 on the year. With one game remaining in their season against the New York Jets (6-10), there is no way the Pats can reach them in the standings.
That means New England has locked up the last-place position in the AFC East no matter what unfolds in Week 18.
The 27-21 win over the Patriots for the Bills secured that. It’s the first time since Belichick’s first year in charge that New England will finish in last place in the division.
A win gets a bit sweeter for western New York.
