Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver is in the news as of late and for good reason.
The team and defensive tackle agreed to a four-year extension.
Next up? It could be Greg Rousseau and he’s well aware of that.
Oliver, the Bills’ first-round pick in 2019, was playing on the fifth-year option this season prior to inking his extension.
The next Bill potentially to have his fifth-year option picked up is Rousseau.
That could happen for Rousseau and an extension could follow. Or Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane could go straight to the long-term deal.
All in all, Rousseau is ready for either option because according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the pass rusher has hired new representation. After the 2023 season, Rousseau will be eligible for an extension.
Rousseau is aware that he’s next up for that fifth-year option as well.
In 2020, Buffalo did not have a Round 1 selection. Those are the only players that have that extra-year option tagged onto their rookie deals. After selecting Oliver in 2019, the Bills traded their 2020 first rounder for Stefon Diggs. Then came Rousseau in the first round in 2021.
And it’s not the worst idea either because of the known way Beane operates.
Soon after the Oliver extension, Beane revealed that contract discussions dated back to last summer with Oliver.
Beane likes having talks over the long haul–Rousseau will be ready, and could put himself in a good position for those if he puts up another eight-sack season like he did in 2022.
