Bills do not name starting cornerback ahead of Rams matchup

#Bills do not name starting cornerback ahead of Rams matchup:

The Buffalo Bills have done one thing very consistently since Sean McDermott was named head coach.

The team keeps their cards very close to its chest. The latest showing of this can be found at cornerback.

Ahead of facing the Los Angeles Rams in their 2022 regular season opener on Thursday, Buffalo’s coach declined a chance to name a starter.

“Yeah. Not going to do that yet,” McDermott said via video conference. “Not ready to do that yet.”

“We’re still working through that. And I’ll tell you what, those two young players have worked extremely hard. And this, again, (we’re) trying to do right by them and our team first and foremost. And then, if it becomes a competitive advantage, it becomes a competitive advantage. But that’s not really the intent to why we’re doing it,” he added.

With Tre’Davious White on the PUP list, he will miss at least four games. That leaves Dane Jackson as the Bills’ top cornerback and starting across from him will be either one of two rookies: Kaiir Elam or Chrisitan Benford.

Elam was Buffalo’s top draft pick at the 2022 NFL draft. However, Benford, a Round 6 selection, has impressed and has made the choice difficult.

But there’s still the possibility that both do play. Buffalo defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier said this week Bills could “mix it up” with the two.

Stay tuned.
