In what seems like nothing short of a miracle, Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has been released from the hospital, UC Medical Center, in Cincinnati.
Not only that, he’s back in Buffalo. Already.
Hamlin is discharged after spending a week in Cincy hospitalized. Dr. William Knight and Dr. Timothy Pritts announced the update on Monday via video conference.
The 24-year-old continues to recover from the cardiac arrest he suffered in a NFL game last week against the Cincinnati Bengals. However, the latest is remarkable.
“I can confirm he is doing well and this is the beginning of the next stage of his recovery,” Knight said.
According to the update, Hamlin began walking again with assistance on Friday only hours after having his breathing tube removed. In addition, Hamlin reportedly began having contact and communicating with his team last week.
Perhaps the determining factor on Hamlin being well enough to continue his recovery from Buffalo General Hospital closer to home was thanks to Nyheim Hines.
Hines returned the opening kickoff for a score in the Bills’ 35-23 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday. Hamlin, watching from his final day at UC Medical Center, “jumped up and down” and set off alarms all over the ICU in the process.
Pritts said it was understandable.
“He was beyond excited,” Pritts said.
Doctors point to all of that as proof that Hamlin is “completely neuralgically intact.” They added that Hamlin did not sustain any injuries to his spine.
