The Bills need an offensive playmaker addition this offseason. About a year ago, Cole Beasley and John Brown gave that group a big-time boost via free agency. But the Bills cannot sit on their hands with that duo this, says Bleacher Report.
Tabbing one mistake every NFL team must avoid at the upcoming draft, B/R says for the Bills it’s “ignoring speed at wide receiver”:
The Buffalo Bills fielded a functional offense in 2019—one that was good enough to reach the postseason—but they struggled to consistently stretch the field. Given the incredible amount of arm strength possessed by quarterback Josh Allen, that’s a problem.
It’s a problem that the Bills have to address in the draft.
The receiving corps is comprised of complementary players. John Brown and Cole Beasley are fine pass-catchers, but they don’t regularly win at all three levels of the field. The Bills need to add an explosive playmaker who can do just that.
Whether it means picking a prospect such as Alabama’s Henry Ruggs III or Colorado’s Laviska Shenault Jr. late in Round 1 or targeting a burner on Day 2, the Bills need to add speed, and they need to do it early.
Along with speed, the Bills are noteworthy in the market for some size at the position, too. Duke Williams at 6-foot-4 is their lone big-bodied target on the outside. It’s a hard ask to find that sort of talent, but it’s a good year for the Bills to find extra playmakers.
The upcoming draft class of wideouts is touted as one of the deepest in years. If the Bills don’t use their first pick on a receiver, they could find a first-round talent in the later rounds at the position. In addition, that deep draft class could help drop the prices on upcoming free agent playmakers as well. The Bengals’ AJ Green headlines the free agency market at the position.
Regardless, the Bills have no excuse for not addressing the position this offseason.
