Bills’ Brian Daboll to interview for Jets’ head coach job

Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll to interview for New York Jets head coaching job,.

There’s only a handful of head coaching jobs in the NFL, so you can’t really blame the guy for being interested. But the potential Brian Daboll sweepstakes will begin with the New York Jets.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Jets requested to interview Daboll on Monday. The job was made vacant on Sunday when Adam Gase was fired.

By rule, the Bills offensive coordinator must wait until following Buffalo’s upcoming Wild Card weekend game to interview with the Jets for the job. That matchup sees the Indianapolis Colts slated to visit Buffalo.

While the Jets have struggled in recent seasons leading to Gase’s dismissal, the New York job would be a coveted one. Located in the largest market in the NFL, the Jets also hold the No.2 overall pick at the upcoming 2021 NFL. That new coaching hire will have the pick of the litter when it comes to starting things from scratch with that pick.

That is, aside from Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. As the likely No. 1 overall pick at the upcoming draft, Lawrence will likely be a Jags player come next offseason.

Daboll is likely to be an attractive head-coaching candidate thanks to the development of Bills quarterback Josh Allen in 2020. The Bills also had the No. 2 scoring offense in the NFL in 2020.
