Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane said pass rusher Von Miller is available to play in Week 14 against the Kansas City Chiefs despite his recent arrest.
On Nov. 30, the 34-year-old had a warrant issued for his arrest relating to a domestic abuse incident in the Dallas area. The accusation reportedly came from Miller’s pregnant girlfriend.
Miller did turn himself in a short time later and faces an assault of a pregnant person charge which is a third-degree felony.
The situation went down during Buffalo’s bye last week. On Wednesday, the team returned from their week off–Miller included.
Miller did not practice on Wednesday but head coach Sean McDermott, who mostly did not comment on the situation, said Miller was given a veteran rest day. It was not a day off due to the incident. Miller will practice on Thursday.
Instead of commenting, McDermott deferred to statements made by general manager Brandon Beane.
The GM said the Bills do not expect Miller to be placed on the commissioner’s exempt list, which would deem him inactive. Aside from that possibility, it’s going to be business as usual for Miller ahead of Sunday’s Bills-Chiefs matchup.
“We had our conversations with Von and understood what he believes happened and so from that standpoint, we can’t get into it,” Beane said via video conference. “It’s an open investigation. And so, we’ll just let the legal process play out and he’ll participate like normal in practice.”
Beane added it would be “out of character for the person we know” if the allegations were true.
However, in 2021, Miller reportedly was investigated by police in Parker, Colorado, but was ultimately not charged. At that time, he was playing for the Denver Broncos, and specific details on that investigation have not been made public, nor has Miller commented on it.
Since the incident, Miller’s girlfriend has downplayed the incident when speaking with media in the Dallas area.
