If you thought you were bothered by running back J.D. McKissic this past week, think again.
You were not as upset as Bills general manager Brandon Beane.
As the first wave of free agency wrapped up for the Bills this week, Beane took to the podium and discussed all things football. McKissic’s name came up.
As the story went, McKissic agreed to a deal with the Bills, only to turn back around to Washington and sign with the Commanders.
Beane doesn’t sound like he was as mad at the player himself. Rather, more so those around him.
In Beane’s eyes, once that deal is agreed upon, and certainly, once it gets out, that’s it. At that point in time, the player’s agent has to tell other teams no.
On top of that, other clubs are supposed to respect it.
Those are two things that Beane doesn’t believe happened, and he even admits he feels awkward about it.
Beane has ties to the Washington organization. Beane won’t know the exact exchange between Washington and McKissic, or who even spoke to him, but the GM is very familiar with Commanders head coach Ron Rivera and others.
Beane admitted things with Washington are now “complicated.”
For the best context on Beane’s feelings, check out the video of his responses about McKissic via the Washington Post’s Nicki Jhabvala:

âOnce you have an agreement, the agent is supposed to say, 'Itâs over.' And this agent did that. And this agent told the other club it's over. But the other club didnât back off.â pic.twitter.com/3kj3rWBa9D
