Bill Belichick critical of Patriots in uncomfortable presser after loss to Texans

“There’s not a whole lot to say here … just wasn’t good enough in any area”

It seems like there’s at least one or two games during the NFL season that Bill Belichick has an uncomfortable postgame press conference after a big loss.

This time, it’s coming after the New England Patriots’ 28-22 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday night. The Patriots were out-coached and outplayed in all three phases of the game, and the score didn’t reflect that. Tom Brady and the offense were held to nine points halfway through the fourth quarter, and they put some quick offense together at the end of the game.

Deshaun Watson threw three touchdown passes and DeAndre Hopkins even recorded a touchdown pass on a trick play. New England’s offense was extremely stagnant when Julian Edelman and James White weren’t involved in the play, and the defense looked sluggish.

Belichick had very little words to say about the game in his postgame press conference, aside from, “we have to do better”. If he didn’t include a different rendition of that phrase, there was an awkward silence throughout his four-minute presser.

This clip in specific narrows in on the uncomfortable silence.

The Patriots fell to the Texans for the first time since 2009, and they’re now 10-2 on the season. This gives the Baltimore Ravens the top seed in the AFC conference, which could be problematic for an underwhelming Patriots team in the playoffs.

Belichick and his coaching staff have a lot to work on this week before the Patriots take on Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
