Big Ten lays out clinching scenarios for Oregon Ducks conference championship opponent

Oregon knows it will be in Indianapolis for the Big Ten championship game, but the Ducks opponent is still a mystery.

The Oregon Ducks football team will be in Indianapolis on December 7 to play in the Big Ten Championship Game. It’s quite the accomplishment considering this is the Ducks’ first season in the conference and they had to run a gauntlet of eight conference games in eight straight weeks to pull it off.

But Oregon’s opponent is still a mystery.

The No. 1 Ducks will play any one of these three teams for the title: Ohio State, Penn State or Indiana will be standing on the other sideline.

The easiest path to Indy belongs to No. 2 Ohio State, who has to win a home game against a 6-5 Michigan team. That’s it. Win and they’re in.

Penn State’s path to Indy is a little more complicated, but not that complicated. The Nittany Lions have to beat Maryland at home and have the Wolverines upset the Buckeyes. While it’s not likely, Ohio State has had a little trouble with that game lately as every Ryan Day detractor will point out.

As for the Hoosiers, who just were defeated at Ohio State, their path is a lot more complicated. First, they have to beat a 1-10 Purdue team. Seems easy enough, but as we have learned recently, nothing can be taken for granted. Then Indiana has to hope both Ohio State and Penn State lose in order to have a virtual home game against the Ducks.

Got it?

Those are the games that Oregon fans need to pay attention to, all while the Ducks host the Washington Huskies at home on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. PT.
