Breaking down the surprises into two categories: player and team

Surprise Player

Given what we thought we knew about teams in the conference, Texas’ Joshua Moore has to be in consideration. He played his first meaningful snaps in over a year. He leads the team in receptions, yards and touchdowns through seven games. Even the most optimistic people didn’t think Moore would be this good for the team this year.

Surprise Team

It goes without saying the Iowa State Cyclones are the biggest surprise this year. In the opening game of the year, they held a 14-10 lead at the half and then were shutout by a Sun Belt team. Following that game, they have looked like a completely different team. The Cyclones have won five of the last six games with the only loss coming by three against the No. 6 team in the country on the road. The  Cyclones are a tough out for any team.
