Big 12 assistant claims Texas football is set to take off in 2023

“They could actually back it all up this season.”

Texas is primed to reach another gear this season on the gridiron. One Big 12 assistant has taken notice of the confluence of talent on the Forty Acres. He’s not sure if the conference can weather the Longhorns’ perfect storm.

247Sports’ Brad Crawford discussed the anonymous coach’s thoughts on Texas on Thursday. Here’s what the league counterpart had to say about head coach Steve Sarkisian’s 2023 Longhorns.

“They could get scary good if Quinn Ewers plays the way he’s capable of. They’re really close to connecting it all on offense and playing up to that standard of a (Steve Sarkisian) team … There’s so much talent there at tight end and receiver that they’re going to burn some teams.”

Sure, the talent is there on the Forty Acres. Skeptics outside of Austin would say it’s always there. What about the famed “cesspool” culture ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit once described of Texas? This opposing coach suggests this team is all about ball and motivated to reach its potential.

“They’ve been weeding out the typical Texas entitlement we’re all used to seeing. Those boys can hit now. … They could actually back it all up this season, we’ll see.”

Whether or not the improved culture will lead to more wins is still to be seen. Albeit, the early returns on development and production are promising. Texas looks to build toward a strong 2023 season in the upcoming fall camp.
