4. Miami Dolphins
As far as a “worst” running back room in a division goes, the Dolphins don’t have a bad one themselves, show exactly how close every team in the division really is.
In 2019, the Dolphins finished last in the league in rushing, averaging a paltry 72.3 yards per game for the campaign. With a bunch of cap space to fill, the team traded for Matt Breida and signed Jordan Howard in free agency. Their 1-2 punch coming at the AFC East when from a who’s that to a look out.
This duo will be intriguing to follow. Both Breida and Howard have had success as No. 1 running backs on respective teams. Breida was in the midst of a great 2019 season that was derailed by injury. Then, he struggled to regain his form and lost the job to Raheem Mostert in San Francisco. Howard shared snaps with rookie Miles Sanders in Philadelphia.
The biggest question for the duo: Can each player recapture their previous glory when they were on top of the depth chart? The combination immediately makes Miami a better offense than what was viewed at the end of last season. Now, can Brieda replicate his 5.3 yards per carry figure from last year while before ultimately losing confidence and the job? Will Howard be the back that he was in Chicago, averaging over 1,000 rushing yards in this three seasons in the Windy City? If this can materialize, then Miami will be quite a surprise to follow this year.
