Bennet Williams earned honors far more valuable than our Ducks Wire Player of the Game on Saturday night. On Sunday, he was given the title of the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week.
With his 8 tackles, two interceptions, and one touchdown, Williams was a bright spot in the Oregon Ducks defense; a defense that was full of highlights and impressive moments against the Arizona Wildcats. Williams picked up his first interception of the night in the first quarter, and his second late in the fourth quarter to seal the 41-19 victory for the Ducks.
Williams now has three interceptions on the season and is among the team leaders in tackles. His place at the boundary safety position is as solid as we could have ever expected, and the junior is among the biggest leaders on the defense. This honor is well deserved, and surely the first of many to come this season.
