Bengals slam door on Joe Mixon return for Week 17, ending his season

The Cincinnati Bengals won’t bring Joe Mixon back this season.

The Cincinnati Bengals won’t bring back running back Joe Mixon for the season finale against the Baltimore Ravens.

Mixon, who hasn’t played since Week 6, continues to work his way back from a nagging foot injury. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor confirmed Monday that he won’t return, per ESPN’s Ben Baby.

Freshly extended on a big-money deal this offseason, Mixon only got in six games, rushing for 428 yards and three scores on a 3.6 average with 21 catches.

In a Week 16 win over Houston, Samaje Perine rushed 13 times for 95 yards and two scores, while Giovani Bernard chipped in 65 yards over 16 carries — those two will be responsible for taking down the Ravens if an upset is to happen.

The Mixon news was expected at this point, as he was briefly seen rehabbing weeks ago before getting shut down again. With the season lost, the coaches probably didn’t mind making sure he’s 100 percent for the start of 2021.
