Bengals seeking statement win over 49ers in Week 8

One Bengals veteran says they’re clashing with a Super Bowl contender on the road.

The San Francisco 49ers might have lost on Monday night to make it two defeats in a row, but the Cincinnati Bengals aren’t taking them lightly.

In fact, veterans like cornerback Mike Hilton have made it clear what a statement win it would be to travel to San Francisco and win in Week 8.

“I would say so. That’s a Super Bowl contending team over there,” Hilton said, according to Fox 19’s Joe Danneman. “We had an ugly start to our season here so we can turn it around with this one.”

Those Bengals will catch the 49ers on a short week next Sunday, though the NFC opponent could very well have key players like offensive tackle Trent Williams back for the game.

The Bengals enter the contest off a bye week, which permitted key names like Joe Burrow, Tee Higgins and Chidobe Awuzie rest.

These smaller factors enhance what is already a compelling matchup without the extra help and what indeed looks like it could be a showcase of two playoff teams.
