Cincinnati Bengals second-round pick Cam Taylor Britt won’t partake in the rest of training camp this summer after undergoing surgery to address a core injury.

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor confirmed the news on Friday before the team’s Week 2 preseason game, per Marisa Contipelli of the team’s website.

It’s a disappointing turn for Taylor-Britt, who had a chance to steal some of the starter’s snaps from veteran Eli Apple at the boundary cornerback spot. That’s still on the table if he can get back healthy during the regular season, but the reps he’ll miss over the next few weeks are critical.

Taylor-Britt had both struggled and flashed his major upside when healthy during camp. Names like the undrafted Allan George will get more chances to prove they belong while he’s out.
