It seems high-profile rookie quarterbacks sliding in the NFL is always a topic of discussion before their first pro season.

That seems to be the case for Cincinnati Bengals first-round pick Joe Burrow too. After a strong outing in the team’s “third preseason game” scrimmage, Burrow told reporters he plans to slide more than he did at LSU.

Burrow noted the following, per ESPN’s Ben Baby: “Once they start paying me to play this game, I’ll probably start protecting my body a little bit more.”

Smart choice by Burrow, who wasn’t afraid to put his body on the line in the SEC. He tucked it and ran 128 times in 2018, then 115 more times in 2019. While the SEC is the best conference out there, it’s going to be different when Burrow takes hits from pro players over the course of 17 weeks (or more, right?).

Speaking of taking hits, Burrow’s still anxious to take his first at the pro level. The Bengals figure to let that happen soon with twoish weeks left before the regular-season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers.
