Ben Roethlisberger says the key to the Steelers season is Kenny Pickett

Kenny Pickett has to continue to evolve as a quarterback as defenses are better prepared for him.

When the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Ben Roethlisberger in the first round of the 2004 NFL draft, no one knew he’d be so good so early. He came in as a rookie and shined. There never felt like there was much of a dropoff after the league got a look at him.

But Roethlisberger does believe this is a hurdle that starting quarterback Kenny Pickett will have to face. Roethlisberger talked about Pickett on the latest episode of Footbahlin with Ben Podcast and made it clear that Pickett is the key.

Roethlisberger is absolutely right about Pickett and wide receiver George Pickens. Teams now have a full bank of video on them from last season. It will be up to them to continue to evolve their own games so that when they come out in the 2023 season, they give teams something new to prepare for.

Pickett and Pickens are preparing to hit the field for the first preseason game of 2023 on Friday.
