The Texas A&M Football program received beyond-devastating news on Friday afternoon, as we all learned that Terry Price, who served as the defensive ends coach since December 2011, passed away at age 55 due to complications from Stage IV cancer, confirmed by KAGS.
Terry Price began his long career with the Maroon and White while playing at Texas A&M as a defensive end from 1986-1989 under Head Coach Jackie Sherrill and R.C Slocum. After earning his degree in 1992, Price’s coaching career started as an assistant under Slocum during the ’92 season.
After a short stint as the DL coach in 1994 with Western Kentucky, Price coached the defensive line under Head Coach Tommy Tuberville at Ole Miss (1995-1998) and followed Tuberville to Auburn for the same position from 1999-2008.
After a brief two-year stay at Ole Miss under Houston McNutt, newly minted Aggies’ Head Coach Kevin Sumlin brought Price back home after initially accepting an offer to again coach under Tommy Tuberville at Texas Tech, as Texas A&M’s move to the SEC while returning to his roots was just too good to pass up. Moving from the DL to coaching defensive ends in 2015, Kevin Sumlins’ eventual departure in 2017 led to current head coach Jimbo Fisher keeping Price on his staff for the last five seasons.
On the field, Terry Price was renowned for his coaching philosophy built around toughness and football intelligence, practically trademarking “ya’ll don’t hold back!” during games and practices. At the same time, his recruiting acumen was second to none, helping bring top-tier defensive talent ranging from Myles Garrett to current defensive linemen such as Walter Nolan, Shemar Turner, Shemar Stewart, and LT Overton while placing nine players into the NFL.
According to those who knew him best, you couldn’t find a better man off the field. Coach by day and a Pit Master by night, nothing came before his family, and after watching his sons, Devin and Alex, earn their degrees from Texas A&M, two more goals as a loving Father was achieved in 2023. Price’s three-year journey was helping coach Devin, who was a wide receiver for the Aggies from 2020 to 2022, will always stay in our hearts as one of the truly great moments in Aggie history.
Price is survived by his wife, Kenya, and his two sons, Devin and Alex. Terry Prices’ impact on the Texas A&M Football Program is immense and will be felt for years to come, and he will be truly missed. Gig ’em forever, Terry.
