Bedlam is over according to Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy

According to Mike Gundy, Bedlam is over.

One of the top rivalry games in the Big 12 is the annual Bedlam matchup between both Oklahoma schools.

The Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma State Cowboys have battled every since the 1904 season in Guthrie, Oklahoma. This year it will be meeting No. 118 and apparently the very last between these two schools. At least that is how Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy sees it.

“In football, Bedlam is history in my opinion,” Gundy said to ESPN. “OU chose to go to the SEC. When they did, they took Bedlam with them. … [Oklahoma athletic director Joe] Castiglione is a friend of mine, but when he and their president decided to go to the SEC, they took Bedlam with them. Do I like it? No. I like tradition.”

Oklahoma State hasn’t had a lot of success in this series with the Sooners having the edge, 91-19-7. Still, it is difficult to see that long-standing history go up in a puff of smoke. The final meeting will take place in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on Nov. 4.

The Cowboys hope to repeat history. In 2021, Oklahoma State defeated Oklahoma in the final game coached by Lincoln Riley before he departed for USC. Can they send the Sooners off to the SEC in a similar manner? Or will Oklahoma have the last laugh?
