Punishment has been handed down to Chicago Bears receiver Javon Wims following his ejection from Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints.
Wims punched Saints safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson twice — in the helmet — which instigated a melee on the field early in the third quarter.
Wims has been suspended for two games, the NFL announced on Monday. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Wims will appeal his suspension.

Bears head coach Matt Nagy called Wims’ actions “completely unacceptable,” and it something that ended up costing his team early in the third quarter in Chicago’s 26-23 overtime loss to the Saints.
“One of Javon’s strengths is his character, who he is as a person,” Nagy said after the game. “He’s since apologized, but that’s not … You don’t have that. There’s no part of that in this game. … That’s not how we roll here.”
Wims is eligible to return to the Bears’ active roster on Nov. 17 following Chicago’s Week 10 match-up against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football. That is, if he’s not released before then, which is certainly a possibility.
